Domestic Barbarism

While the US authorities like to pin the label “terrorist” on anyone who disagrees with government policy, the authorities themselves are descending further into barbaric practices. As if American barbarism against the people of other countries isn’t bad enough, the authorities use the same information extraction techniques against their own citizens. Yet another recent example is the mistaken arrest of an innocent man for vandalism. Although one concedes that the authorities are entitled to an occasional mistake like the rest of us, a report notes the shocking fact that the suspect “spent four days in jail, often chained to the floor and repeatedly urged by FBI agents to confess.”

Chained to the floor! In my book, this is torture, and yet another example of how the US is sinking further into barbarism under the reign of George W. Bush.
