Divergent Views

House Democratic Leader Nancy Pelosi confirms that the US is an Israeli lackey and spews the usual groveling propaganda.

Fortunately, some people have the guts to speak frankly.

Only one thing: Mahathir apparently subscribes to Bush’s story about who committed 9/11. I hope someone persuades him to take another look at the evidence.

Destroying Life with Federal Money

“I believe that the use of federal monies that end up destroying life is not — is not positive, it’s not good,” said President Dubya, stating his opposition to legislation for embryonic stem cell research. Could you imagine such a revolting confection of chutzpah and hypocrisy from anyone but a member of Team Bush?

I suppose the billions being squandered in Iraq are creating life. I suppose the regime’s screw-the-poor social policies at home are nurturing life. I suppose the regime’s tax-funded actions on the environment are good for living things.

I can easily imagine all the sick and crippled people who would benefit from stem cell research. That would be nurturing life. I suppose “Christian” Dubya thinks they should go see faith healers.

Assuming that Dubya is not a vegetarian, does he ever consider all the domestic animals that are killed to feed his meat habit? That too is sacrificing one life to nurture another, and since the American public subsidizes the livestock industry... You get the picture.

Hypocrisy and chutzpah. Spin and distortion and lies. Death and destruction and war. Pollution and contamination and sickness. Welcome to Dubya World.

Democrats Exposed

It’s been a long time since I enjoyed something as much as when George Galloway verbally beat the shit out of Senator Norm Coleman.

Galloway did a magnificent job of pulling no punches and speaking truth. He made the neocons and their acolytes look like the revolting liars and warmongers they are. How incredibly refreshing. One hopes the corn pone Nazis will kindly give Mr. Galloway another opportunity to ream them in public.

But Galloway did us an even bigger favor: He exposed the Democrats as pusillanimous, spineless, directionless, right-leaning, ass-kissing, warmongering GOP wannabes. The question that too many people are missing here is, “Why aren’t Democratic members of Congress doing this?” For too long we’ve been forced to look on helplessly as the lickspittle, bootlicking Democrats grovel before the Republicans, virtually rubber-stamping their entire program of fiscal insanity, constitution-shredding, never-ending war, and screw-the-poor policies. What a pity we had to import someone to speak for the American people because our own “left” politicians are too gutless and leaning so far to the right that they can’t walk straight.

The Eco-Terrorism Bugaboo

Animal rights groups and environmental activists who cause property damage, particularly the ALF and ELF, are classified as terrorists and apparently constitute a new front in the Bush regime’s phony “war on terrorism.” Just take a gander at this CNN article.

While this blogger certainly does not encourage people to commit illegal acts, the fact is that these “terrorists” have killed no one, while the lies of the Bush regime have killed so many that it is hard to keep a body count. Bush and his people shamelessly peddle spin, distortions, and outright lies that result in thousands of deaths and many more injuries, plus incalculable property and environmental damage. So why isn’t the long arm of the law reaching out to collar these people? Why hasn’t Bush been impeached?

But let me return to the article. The FBI’s John Lewis is quoted as saying about the lack of human victims and the increasing size and frequency of attacks that “Plainly, I think we're lucky. Once you set one of these fires they can go way out of control.” Leave it to the law to hype the eco-terrorist threat, while ignoring the neocons, who are rattling their nuclear sabers and threatening us all with annihilation, as they commit mayhem around the globe.

And leave it to the lapdog media like CNN to print this but avoid questioning the obviously untrue government account of what happened on 9/11, one of the world’s biggest terrorists acts.

Relatively small incidents of property damage like those committed by the ELF and ALF are immediately labeled terrorism, while the institutionalized large-scale mass-murder terrorist acts committed by governments are excused as “national defense,” no matter how obvious the lies. The bigger the crime, the more likely it will go unpunished, with the perpetrators hailed as heros.

The Bolton Saga

John Bolton, said to be a madman, is still up for consideration. Some people may find this unbelievable. Frankly, I find it unbelievable that this saber-rattling hawk was ever put in charge of arms control, or even considered for the post of ambassador to the UN. That his career has come this far is testament to the warped minds of the people who run the US government.

Unimportant Bush

Here we have another indication of how unimportant Bush is considered by those who really run the country. Despite an airspace breach, Bush was not informed for nearly an hour. Normally you’d expect the “commander-in-chief” to be informed immediately. Instead, they let him continue a bike ride!

Reminds one of 9/11, when Bush was sent far away from the scene of the action, and kept away by shuttling him around from one place to another on the presidential plane.

My guess is the movers and shakers just want him out of the way so he won’t mess anything up.

Irrational 9/11 Denial

Why is it that many people generally considered to be on the “left” vehemently debunk any notion that 9/11 was an inside job? Noam Chomsky, an icon of the left for decades, has consistently pooh-poohed the idea that the Bush regime orchestrated the tragedy. The Nation writer David Corn makes light of the very thought. And Ward Churchill, who has recently benefited from the strong support of those on the left for his freedom of speech, makes the stunning claim that saying 9/11 was actually perpetrated by the Bush regime is tantamount to saying that people of color are too stupid to have planned and executed such a complex operation. And just listen to “liberal” talk radio! You won’t find much in the way of opinion that would not have been approved by Democratic Party headquarters.

One writer correctly observes that such denial has become downright irrational, leading one to question either the mental faculties or the political agendas of these debunkers.

I for one supported Churchill’s right to state his views. And basically, I think his “roosting chickens” thesis is correct. Trouble is, the man has invested so much in this thesis that he can’t see straight any more. He’s dug a hole for himself, and can’t climb out. If he admits that 9/11 was an inside job, that would be seen by many people as undermining his view of 9/11 as blowback. And since it’s such a good example —maybe the all-time best example — of chickens coming home to roost, he can’t afford to give it up. It’s clouded his judgment and is making him say irrational things to defend himself.

After a lot of hard work by many investigators, the case for 9/11 being an inside job is now very strong. Once you’ve read over the evidence and given the matter a little thought, the denials and debunking of these left gatekeepers sound more and more like preposterous absurdities. What are these people so afraid of? If they want to believe Bush’s flimsy, contradiction-ridden story of 9/11, that’s fine. But one naturally wonders why they are so intent on debunking and ridiculing the inside-job theory, that they are now making fools of themselves by spouting irrationalities.

Hypocrisy, Inc.

Mushroom-Cloud Lady has raised a stink lately about Russia’s arms sale to Venezuela, claiming those arms could end up aiding left-wing forces in the region. But now we have news about what we suspected was going on, anyway — the US military arming right-wing Colombian death squads.

In other, related, news, Mushroom-Cloud Lady is questioning Venezuela’s commitment to democracy. What a laugh! A person who stands by and watches as her own country turns into a fascist police state is certainly not qualified to talk about press freedoms and whatever.

The hypocrisy and chutzpah are breathtaking.

Worthless Advice

The Department of Homeland Security’s Ready.gov website is stupid and worthless, but so is the Washington Post article that points out its problems.

When I was in elementary school, we had drills in which we prepared for a nuclear attack by the Soviet Union. In these drills we would exit our classrooms, line up in front of our lockers and away from windows and doors, and assume a fetal position. Now isn’t that about one of the dumbest things you have ever heard?

In the days of the Cold War face-off with the Soviet Union, people were building fallout shelters in their basements or back yards. The idea was that in the event of a nuclear attack, people would take refuge in their shelters and come out when it was safe again. Which, if your area was irradiated, would effectively be long after your bones had turned to dust. And children in school would, after a nuclear blast that blew in the windows and doors, walk home in a no man’s land or wait for their parents to pick them up? Get real!

The whole idea is laughably stupid. But here is the Department of Homeland Security (another sink for tax money) and the Washington Post essentially telling us the same thing. Our leaders will waste tax money thinking up imbecilic things like that, instead of trying to create a world without nuclear weapons and war. The situation has gotten significantly worse under the insane Armageddon-courting Bush regime and its talk of building and using new kinds of nuclear weapons. It’s like a man telling his wife and kids how to survive a car accident, then loading them in the car and driving like a maniac.

Our leaders are insane, and the lapdog media are telling us that their lunatic ravings are essentially OK. The system just needs a little fine tuning, right?

NYT Avoids the R-Word

The great New York Times (“all the news that’s fit to print”) publishes an opinion piece by Bob Herbert on the deplorable attitude of Americans toward Iraqis, but carefully avoids mention of the obvious. When I started reading the piece, I was hoping to see mention of the reason why Vietnamese were “gooks” and why Arabs are “ragheads.” Or, for that matter, why in American society Blacks are “niggers,” and so on.

To my great disappointment, Mr. Herbert does not use the word “racism” even once. America is a highly racist society, and still heavily mired in white supremacism. Instead of trying to fix this, it appears the US military is using the deep-seated racism of American culture as a tool to make soldiers despise the enemy du jour.

Thank you, NYT, for studiously avoiding mention of painful realities.
