The Greater Depression, Part 1
Economists still overlook an important difference between the Great Depression and our current situation. In 1929 the US was on the cusp of a high-net-energy society. Although war spending is often credited with America's eventual economic recovery, it was high net energy which enabled war spending on such a scale, and which powered the economy in the post-1945 world. High net energy also made it possible for the defeated nations of WWII to rebuild so quickly. This time we cannot count on high net energy to rescue the economy. There will be no returning to the Good Times, and we face a long, very bumpy downhill course to a much lower energy level. -- RF

NRA wants high-risk nuclear waste buried for 100,000 years
Electric power companies would be responsible for managing the buried waste for periods between 300 and 400 years. The central government would then take over and restrict entry and digging in the burial sites for a period of 100,000 years.
Totally unrealistic. Electric power companies anywhere in the world won't be in existence for another three or four centuries (maybe three or four decades?), and neither will any of the nation-states currently on the planet. What's more, no one has, or ever will have, enough money to properly manage nuclear waste. -- RF
