As I observed on May 5, "[D]iesel fuel is the workhorse fuel of industrial society, running trucks, heavy machinery, and generators." Additionally, other heavy fuels such as kerosene and fuel oil provide the energy for power plants, ships, and aircraft. Industrial society is heavily dependent on these heavier fuels with their preponderance of long-chain alkanes. And of course because of their higher energy content, they are even more difficult to replace than gasoline. -- RF
